The discussion evening is an initiative of PhilCofEast – Philosophy Coffee in the East (of Pretoria)
Our theme topic: “CoalitionReality – Mirage, Courage?”, and specifically its economic ramifications, will be discussed by Johann van Tonder, Economist at MMH Group, speaking in his personal capacity.

Some information snippets about Johann:
– Matriculated at Wessel Maree High in Odendaalsrus, Free State.
– M.Com (Economics) from the University of the Free State in 1986.
– Various courses at ia the World Bank, Oxford Institute and Pretoria University.
– Currently economist and researcher at MMH Group and consulting for various institutions.
– Previously at the Bureau for Market Research, Unisa (2011-2015), economist responsible for asset allocation at various asset management companies (2007-2011), economic reporter for Rapport/City Press (1998-2007) and economist at the National Treasury (1989-1998).
– Award winning journalist and co-author of Zumanomics (with Raymond Parsons).
– Member of the negotiations team that had to negotiate SA’s return to the international financing community after 1994. He also formulated economic policy still in place today.
– Currently also busy with resarch in Behavioural Economics – to understand why descisions and reactions of consumers in specific groups and classes differ from conventional theory.
– Happily married to Annalene (1989); 2 children Vincent (31) and Anelle (27).
PhilCofEast, a community initiative, aims to establish a discussion platform for hot topical affairs with a spicy philosophical flavour. Held in the East of Pretoria but for all from everywhere. For old and young and for all orientations and cultures.
