You are cordially invited to a discussion evening on Thursday 18 April 2024 @ PHOBIANS Club, 378 Queen’s Crescent, Lynnwood, Pretoria, 18h00 for 18h30.

The discussion evening is an initiative of PhilCofEast – Philosophy Coffee in the East (of Pretoria)

Our topic: “AI (Artificial Intelligence), the benefits, possible disadvantages and ethical matters?”, will be discussed by Dr Coetzee Bester, TechnoThinker and Academic.

Some background snippets about Dr Bester:

– Born in 1957, schooled at Die Poort Laerskool and FH Odendaal Hoërskool.
– Studied at the University of Pretoria, a Cum Laude student who completed a PhD in Information Ethics in 2018.
– During his political career, he served from 1994 to 1999 as a MP under the Presidency of Mr. Nelson Mandela and in the Office of President FW de Klerk. During this time, he was also a member of the Constitution Writing Assembly that finalise the historic 1996 post-apartheid constitution for South Africa. He attended the Dakar discussions with the ANC in 1987.
– Since 1999 he facilitated leadership schools in 35 African countries. During this time, he also assisted various governments with policy formulation towards sustainable development in Africa as well as the management of challenges related to radicalism, racism, ethnic violence and cultural diversity. Further to this his political focus included policy development programmes, the design of election campaigns and management of free and fair elections.
– Until June 2020, he served as the Director of the African Centre of Excellence for Information Ethics (ACEIE) that is based at the University of Pretoria and operated on an academic platform of 112 academic institutions in 22 African countries.
– He and his family, including 4 grandchildren, all lives in Pretoria.

PhilCofEast, a community initiative, aims to establish a discussion platform for hot topical affairs with a spicy philosophical flavour. Held in the East of Pretoria but for all from everywhere. For old and young and for all orientations and cultures.
